Causa Justa will be celebrating Executive Director Maria Poblet’s 15th year at the organization with a “quinceañera” this coming Sunday.

At 3 p.m. at El Rio, 3158 Mission Street, El Rio will host San Francisco salsa band Rumbaché for the event. El Rio puts on Salsa Sundays featuring live music and dancing on their outdoor patio stage almost weekly, donating their door proceeds from 3-4 p.m. to a different non-profit each week — this time, Causa Justa.

The event will also celebrate Causa Justa’s successful fundraising campaign “Gentrification Stops Here!” which raised $40,495 in five days, greatly surpassing their goal of $10,000. The organization hopes to use the money to pass a “Healthy Homes Policy” in Oakland in an attempt to stop “landlord harassment and disrepair” and win an “Anti-Speculation Tax” in San Francisco to disincentivize evictions.

And Causa Justa is fundraising again with this quinceañera, inviting organizations to sponsor the event in return for a photo op with Pobles, who will be decked-out in a “quinceañera outfit:”

María Poblet, Causa Justa :: Just Cause Executive Director, has promised a special treat for the party.

She told us, “Only because I love this community, I will wear a Quinceañera outfit at the party.”

CJJC fights for housing justice and immigrant rights with a passion AND WE CAN WIN!

*El Rio will donate all door proceeds from 3-4pm to Causa Justa :: Just Cause. Come before 4pm to help CJJC.

Rumbaché will start playing at 4 p.m., and attendees must be 21 or older and pay a $10 cover charge to get in.
