It is 7 a.m., 51° and headed to 75°. Details for the next 10 days are here.

Happy belated 10th birthday to BeyondChron, the site run by Randy Shaw. Big plans are in store:

We are in the midst of BC’s first complete redesign. It will be a vast improvement. The new site will be up in early May. We are also adding reporters and technical staff, financed in part by a defamation lawsuit filed against BC and me by a landlord who had used the Ellis Act to evict a longterm tenant. The court determined it was a malicious SLAPP suit, and awarded us attorneys’ fees.

Yes, there is a delightful irony in that. READ MORE.

You don’t have to go far to find a millionaire, according to a report in San Francisco Magazine.  Noe Valley ranks third in millionaires with 228 and the Mission, sixth with 92.

So, I guess this follows: Groceries from Rainbow Grocery Co-Op can now be delivered by Instacart, according to a report in the SF Business Times.  Time is money, as those with money say.

Enjoy the day!

I’ve been a Mission resident since 1998 and a professor emeritus at Berkeley’s J-school since 2019. I got my start in newspapers at the Albuquerque Tribune in the city where I was born and raised. Like many local news outlets, The Tribune no longer exists. I left daily newspapers after working at The New York Times for the business, foreign and city desks. Lucky for all of us, it is still here.

As an old friend once pointed out, local has long been in my bones. My Master’s Project at Columbia, later published in New York Magazine, was on New York City’s experiment in community boards.

As founder and an editor at ML, I've been trying to figure out how to make my interest in local news sustainable. If Mission Local is a model, the answer might be that you - the readers - reward steady and smart content. As a thank you for that support we work every day to make our content even better.
