When you think of the Mission, what do you think of? Art? Technology? Both are woven into the fabric of the neighborhood, and we at Mission Local think the two should take the opportunity to mingle in our unauthorized contest.
We are not the first to think art and tech should meet.
Rocket Science Consulting, a design and tech consulting firm, resides inside a mural-draped building on Alabama Street.

Rocket Science owner Matt McGraw reached out to his muralist friend Bryan Jablonski last summer about making the outside of their building a little more creative.
Jablonski accepted the challenge, whipped up a design and sent it over to McGraw, who immediately fell in love with it. Orange happens to be his favorite color. Jablonski painted the mural over the course of two weekends last July, said Tisha Blackburn, mission operations manager for Rocket Science.
Was it an intentional choice to combine art and tech by adding a mural to this tech-focused company’s building? “I’m not sure that it was a conscious decision for that reason,” Blackburn said, “but I definitely think that the two are not mutually exclusive and it should happen more.”
Well, Missionites and those beyond, here’s your chance. Submit your artistic design to decorate a tech bus and you might just win the $500 cash prize to boot. Email us at submissions@missionlocal.org.
You matter. Every $ you give helps us cover the city.
We rely on you, our readers, to fund our journalism.

Sorry, Mission Local. This is lame. I hope you remove this post.
Worst mural in the Mission.
“win a chance”???
WTF is up with this company? $500???
Mission Local – you want to support art and artists in the Mission? DON’T post this kind of lame fishing for artists who’ll do work for insultingly low amounts of money.
Checked out their website and was disappointed to find nothing about rocketry or science! Turns out the company is a bunch of computer programmers (of the internet variety) for hire, and they picked a whimsical name to make things seem more fun.
A stasi-bus painting that would tickle the public would be as follows: in 2′ high black san serif letters “We can see you, but you can’t see us”, then the Google logo.
Probably won’t win the contest.
