Weekend Crime Recap: Fatal Stabbing


Police reported that at approximately 3:06 a.m. the San Francisco Fire Department was called to respond to a deceased person at Mission and 16th streets. According to the San Francisco Medical Examiner, Yvonne Barillas, 59, of San Francisco, was found dead of a knife wound.

There were no immediate suspects and no arrests have been made. Police have provided no further information about the current investigation.

Nineteen-year-old Jacob Valdiviezo was shot to death near 24th and Bryant streets at around 3 a.m., police reported. For more on this story, click here.


Police reported that a man was standing on the corner of Bartlett and 22nd at 5:35 a.m. when a young man of about 18 asked him for a dollar. When the victim refused, the suspect pulled out a knife, pulled the chain from the victim’s neck and fled the scene on foot.

No arrests were made.

Police reported that a man was jumped by five other males at 9:18 p.m. at 22nd and Capp streets. The suspects punched the victim in the face repeatedly. The victim said that as soon as he heard police sirens in the area, the suspects left the scene. During the incident, the victim lost his wallet, which had some cash in it. He also suffered bruising to the face. He was treated and released at the scene.

No arrests were made.

At approximately 10 p.m. a man got into a verbal altercation with another man in a Muni bus near Mission Street and Precita Avenue, according to police. The male suspect shot the victim in the leg. The bullet exited the victim’s thigh and hit a woman in the abdomen. For more on this story, click here.

A man was pushed to the ground and cut in the face with a knife around midnight on Sunday, according to police. A male suspect asked the victim for a cigarette, and he complied. When the suspect asked for a second cigarette, the victim said no. The suspect then reportedly pushed the victim to the ground, pulled out a knife and demanded his cigarette pack. When the victim refused, the suspect cut him in the face.

Security guards from a nearby bar heard yelling, came to the scene and tackled the suspect. The victim suffered lacerations to the face and was treated at San Francisco General Hospital. The suspect was held until police arrived and arrested him.

    Really tragic to hear about Yvonne. She will be truly missed. She was a dear friend of folks at Glide in the Tenderloin and was a joy to be around.
