No tables, no problem: the American Grilled Cheese Kitchen had a soft opening today at its new location at 20th and Harrison streets.

Heidi Gibson and Nate Pollak, who took over the former Cafe Gratitude location in May, passed the required city inspections this month and decided to have a surprise soft opening today. No word yet on what their regular business hours will be, but be sure to check out their Facebook page for any future announcements.

Per Facebook: “We have no tables but we have a functioning restaurant. SURPRISE!!! SOFT OPENING TODAY AT OUR NEW MISSION LOCATION. Serving now until we sell out!”

Here’s what our translator, Andrea Valencia, ate:

I had a delicious “Breakfast Piglet” sandwich. I love egg sandwiches, so this will probably be my new favorite place. The coffee was just right, not too strong and not too light, either. The sandwich bread was toasted just right in butter, with apple mustard, sharp melted cheddar and cured ham and a deliciously soft overeasy egg in the middle. Two bites and the egg yolk starts flowing all over, soaking the bread and making the viscous liquid as edible as in your wildest fantasies.

It was $5.50 and $2 for coffee; breakfast served until 11.
