The Chronicle reports that more than 1,900 high school juniors in San Francisco’s class of 2014 are behind on credits or with new college prep work required to get a diploma. Five community meetings have been scheduled to address graduation requirements, and a worried district is busy mailing notices to each of the students who are off track.

Speaking of education, in dozens of states across the country, schools are setting different achievement expectations for students based on their race or ethnicity. The Atlantic takes a look at the influence of waivers from the U.S. Department of Education.

A rally and ceremony will take place at City Hall tonight (5:30-8 p.m.) in honor of Transgender Day of Remembrance. Join members of the transgender community and their supporters in memorializing those killed because of anti-transgender hatred or prejudice.
