The town of Atherton received a $350,000 payout from Facebook to help compensate for increased traffic congestion from the social media giant’s new offices in nearby Menlo Park. Now the town is trying to decide what to do with the money. In the years ahead, Facebook plans to nearly quadruple the number of employees at its new facility and is striking deals with Atherton and Menlo Park over its projected impact.

Meanwhile, a report by the city of San Francisco states that domestic violence in the city rose sharply from mid 2010 to mid 2011. It is not clear whether this change is due to higher reporting of domestic violence or an increase in violence itself.
