Help your child start the school year in style…for free! The Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services, the Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA), Target and other partners will give away 2,150 backpacks full of school supplies to children this Saturday.
The event includes a family barbecue, entertainment, yoga classes, sports activities and a resource fair with nonprofit organizations that provide services to families. This year’s event highlights the Mission Promise Neighborhood, an effort by the Mission community, led by MEDA, to create a cradle-to-college-to-career continuum of services in the neighborhood that will ensure academic, social and economic success for families.
The 2012 Backpack Giveaway is sponsored by Target. Tangle Creations is providing free keychain toys and there will be other giveaways, such as free museum tickets, as well as a computer raffle. District 9 Supervisor David Campos will speak at the event.
