Construction has begun at the future site of Pollo Campero.

The Pollo Campero branch at 2740 Mission St. is slated to open this fall, according to contractors at the site.

Construction has already begun at the former Payless store, and the fast-food chain, hugely popular in Central America, should be in business by September, they said.

In May of 2011, the Planning Commission unanimously approved the permit for Pollo Campero despite several complaints from residents and neighborhood groups about its potential impacts. The commission asked the project’s sponsors to address the neighbors’ concerns regarding noise and odors, and the sponsors agreed to fully enclose the backyard.
