I have been very curious about who is behind the beautiful hand-painted commercial signs all over the Mission, and one of the reporters here at Mission Local was writing about Luz de Luna, a new store on 24th street with a beautiful hand-painted moon outside. Then I met Elliott C Nathan, the young Mission artist who painted Luz de Luna’s moon.
Nathan came to the city to explore his art and, as other artists have done, make money painting commercial signs. He participated in the last Open Studios in the Mission, and he also designs very small skateboards that he decorates with old scraps from places he has visited over the years, as well as with his own art.
