Sara Choi, a victim of last Sunday’s fire that displaced 41 people, is recovering from her wounds and is in good spirits, she told supporters on her Facebook page.

Choi, the winner of this year’s Miss Golden Gate pageant, sustained burn injuries to her legs and feet and cuts to her hand while trying to escape the fire.

Despite the injuries, Choi plans to compete for Miss California this June in Fresno, according to Miss Sonoma’s Facebook page.

Rohnert Park Patch first wrote about Choi’s injuries.

Per Choi’s Facebook page:

On Sunday, my apartment caught on fire. I woke to smoke and flames in the doorway. I grabbed my violin and tried to get out, but the smoke made me dizzy and I fell cutting my violin hand to the bone. I abandoned the violin and instead wrapped my head and body in a bathrobe and tried to run through the flames. I think I fell some more because I have cuts, but I don’t remember anything except not believing I was really alive when I got outside.

Choi lost almost everything in her apartment except her violin, according to a fundraiser page organized by her co-workers at Google.

She also told her friends on Facebook that she is recovering well:

I went in for surgery and skin grafts yesterday, and everything went very well! My stitches can come out in 10 days, and I even took a few baby steps to the bathroom today!

It also sounds like she is in good spirits:

What I really want to say is I have been absolutely blown away by the love, kindness, support, uplifting words, sympathy … The list goes on and on of what you have given me in the last few days … I can’t possibly list all the folks who have helped me or prayed for me, but I’ll try until I run out of characters! Thank you.

(Note: We tried to contact Choi and will update this post if we hear from her.)
