The Examiner interviewed Michael Andersen-Andrade, who describes himself as a photographer, translator and travel bum. Andersen-Andrade lists his favorite places to eat and hang out in the Mission, including Modern Times bookstore, Esta Noche and Revolution Cafe.
“Street photography and the Mission district were made for each other,” Andersen-Andrade told the Examiner. “I’ve traveled the world, but I don’t need to travel farther than Valencia Street between 16th and 24th streets to capture a compelling shot.” We couldn’t agree more.
ABC is reporting that a $40 million advertising campaign to sway public opinion on Proposition 29, the tobacco tax initiative on the June ballot, is working:
A Public Policy Institute poll shows support for Prop. 29 is at 53 percent, down 14 points since March. The slip in support coincides with ad campaigns financed by the tobacco industry bankrolling the opposition. Prop. 29 would make smoking more expensive. If passed, it would add a dollar tax to every pack of cigarettes, bringing the total tax to $1.87. The ads for and against it are everywhere.
