It’s been warm here in San Francisco, which is pretty typical for May. But apparently we aren’t the only ones who’ve had a bit more heat lately — the United States just had the warmest 12-month period on record, the Washington Post reports. Temperatures were an average of 2.8 degrees higher than any other year in the 20th century.

North Carolina joined California and 29 other U.S. states in banning gay marriage when it voted yesterday to amend its constitution. Mother Jones has a story on what that means.
