49ers’ Vernon Davis Comes to the Mission

En Español.

Some 200 people crowded the sidewalks near 23rd and Mission streets to get a glimpse of the San Francisco 49ers’ Vernon Davis, who visited the neighborhood on Monday afternoon.

“Thank you for coming!” fans yelled as the 6’3″, 250-pound tight end walked past the crowd, shaking people’s hands.

Davis was in the neighborhood on Monday for a couple of hours to sign a mural depicting him and other players. The mural, on the south corner of the Walgreens at 23rd and Mission streets, is the work of local graffiti artists Tim Hon and Steve Ha. It is titled “Who’s Got It Better Than Us?” and served as the background for a music video by local artist James Bailey.

“This is for the community,” said Walgreens store manager Abe Bitar, who happily posed for photos with fans.

Fans photographed Davis as he signed the mural. Before leaving, he signed a handful of footballs and other 49ers merchandise.

“Good luck in the playoffs!” a fan yelled as Davis took off.
