A look at this year’s San Francisco Personal Statement Weekend, where local students got help crafting the personal statement essays that are such an important factor in college applications.

The event was held at Mission High School and hosted by 826 Valencia, a Mission District nonprofit that helps students ages 6 to 18 to improve their creative and expository writing skills for future success.

Christopher was first drawn to the Mission by Clarion Alley’s murals. Compared to his apolitical hometown, the strong political implications of the large murals and street art scene in San Francisco took him by surprise. Nonetheless, his favorite mural was of the T-rex terrorizing the Mission.
