Writes Maria X Martinez in an e-mail: “Cookbooks are in! and they are beeeyooootifullll!”

Martinez is a board member of the Friends of Oaxaca Learning Center, a free tutoring program in Mexico that supports low-income high school students. Attached to the program is a bed and breakfast. The chef, Andres Mesinas Cruz, has released a cookbook to kick off a fundraising effort for the program. All proceeds from the cookbook will go to support the tutoring center. Martinez says:

¡Salud! features over fifty healthful and easy-to-make recipes for soups, salads, main and side dishes, desserts, and beverages. The full-color, spiral-bound cookbook is designed to lie flat for easy reference. Recipes are written in Spanish and English and appear on facing pages to enable the cook to have a truly bilingual culinary experience. Most of the ingredients are readily available outside of Mexico, though acceptable substitutes are suggested.
