The Armory, captured above by Flickr user Anomalous_A, could get a new neighbor: a proposed eight-unit apartment building. But Armory owner Peter Acworth, also owner of the fetish porn site Kink.com, opposes the development, citing the building’s historical integrity and potential noise complaints from neighbors, the SF Examiner reports.
Outside the neighborhood, opposition gets ugly.
Fingers have been pointing and allegations flying in the mayoral race over the past few days, as witnesses and videos emerged showing supporters of Mayor Ed Lee assisting voters in Chinatown a little too well. One witness said that some of the supporters were actually filling out ballots for voters, the SF Gate City Insider blog reports.
A spokesperson from rival Leland Yee’s campaign said the operation “looks illegal.” The campaign manager of another rival, Joanna Rees, issued a statement regarding Lee’s ties to supporters who are associated with “alleged money laundering to suspected ballot tampering.” Rees’ campaign also called for District Attorney George Gascón to look into the incident. Lee’s campaign claims no knowledge of or involvement with those particular supporters.
Meanwhile, San Francisco Chronicle columnists pointed out some “odd-looking contributions” for several candidates, including Yee and Lee. Lee’s campaign spending is another source of contention, notes the SF Examiner.
With just over two weeks left until election day in San Francisco, there’s plenty of time for this race to turn into a circus.
Whatever titillating turns the race takes, Mission Loc@l has ongoing Election 2011 coverage.
