Busy week at the SFPD. A suspect, Tracy Luong, 22, of San Jose, has been arrested in connection with the murder of Joseph Hernandez, the UCSF medical student who had just completed his residency at SF General.

On January 9, Hernandez was attacked by an unidentified suspect while inside the Temple nightclub on Howard Street. A bystander who attempted to intervene was, according to a press release issued by the SFPD, “struck in the face and head numerous times by a female suspect wielding high-heeled shoes.”

Police believe Luong to be this woman. She was booked into San Francisco County Jail on Thursday on charges of aggravated assault.

SFPD homicide inspectors have also released surveillance video taken inside the nightclub prior to the attack. They are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect pictured in the video below. He is described as an Asian male with a “sleeve” tattoo on his right arm.
