The Royal Cuckoo, a new bar where Valencia meets Mission (3202 Mission Street), is being opened by Paul Miller, formerly of Chez Spencer and Brunoʼs, and Dusty Miller, a former Green Beret. The Royal Cuckoo was an old bar in Long Beach that Paul and Dustyʼs grandfather Clarence used to frequent.

Music will come alternately from a Hammond organ, played by musicians such as Alex Kallao (who opened Carnegie Hall for Count Basie and was prominently featured in Time magazine in 1954) and old albums ranging from Caruso to George Jones. Patrons will be able to select an entire album side from a card catalog.

Small-batch spirits, liqueurs, wines and beers, as well as Grandpaʼs favorites, will be served.

Opening party tonight at 7 p.m.
