For the second year in a row, Mission Loc@l hosted high school students from the Greenlining Institute for a day’s multimedia workshop.

In eight hours last week, editors and students produced this video about a new coffee stand located in the concession area of the old Grand Theater, as well Skate Park 411 and BART Safety. (Click on the titles to see the full posts with photos and charts.)

Grand Coffee

Nabeel Silmi was once a bartender nearby at Foreign Cinema, but is now using his cocktail shakers to make a mean iced latte. You can meet Silmi and see his innovative barista craft at the old Grand Theater building in the Mission near 23rd Street. The walk-up coffee bar takes the place of what was the Grand’s concession stand. The theater auditorium now houses a 99¢ store, but the original marquee still marks its location.
