Thursday afternoon, an activist t-shirt brand called United We Fit set up shop on Valencia to ask Mission District bystanders to contribute to an oil barrel filled with thousands of messages that will be delivered to BP early next week. “Our goal is to get as many people as possible to express how they feel about the gulf spill and suggestions for how it can be prevented next time,” said Jen Freeman, who works for United We Fit. The company’s signature t-shirts for men and women include the letters “UN” and blank space for the wearer to fill in with words of his or her choice.

The “Bang the Drum Tour” has visited New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, and today is en route to Houston to hand-deliver the messages to BP’s offices there.
