Local artist Sirron Norris sets the stage for a new mural outside of Revolution Cafe on the corner of 22nd and Bartlett Streets. The mural will be created with help from members of the community during the Mission Community Market Block Party taking place June 19th, 11a.m. to 3p.m.

Norris says, “I’m determined to have random people come up and contribute to this space.” For four hours people will be able to put up their own characters.

The block party will include live music, dancing, capoeira, community booths, games, raffle prizes and delicious food! Profits from all food bought at Loló, Cafe Revolution and Escape from New York Pizza will be donated to the Mission Community Market for start-up costs and permits.

Founder/Executive Editor. I’ve been a Mission resident since 1998 and a professor emeritus at Berkeley’s J-school since 2019. I got my start in newspapers at the Albuquerque Tribune in the city where I was born and raised. Like many local news outlets, The Tribune no longer exists. I left daily newspapers after working at The New York Times for the business, foreign and city desks. Lucky for all of us, it is still here.

As an old friend once pointed out, local has long been in my bones. My Master’s Project at Columbia, later published in New York Magazine, was on New York City’s experiment in community boards.
