Immigration rights activists are planning to protest the Secure Communities fingerprint program on Tuesday morning, the same day the program is set take affect.

The program would essentially take away the city’s ability to decide whom to report to immigration.

The protest is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. in front of the Immigration Customs Enforcement office at 630 Sansome St.

Jerry Brown, the California Attorney General and the Democratic gubernatorial candidate, rejected Sheriff Michael Hennessey’s request to opt out of the program last week.

Legal advocates said they are exploring other options.

  1. The vast majority of citizens and legal immigrants go through their entire lives without ever being arrested or charged with a crime. Why should illegal aliens (who already broke the law by coming here illegally) be shown any leniency if they are arrested and charged with additional crimes? I cannot understand why people protest in support of illegal aliens, especially the ones who inexplicably continue to break the law once they get here.
