Hey Kids! is a weekly feature looking at what’s coming up for families and kids of all ages.
Last night underachiever Dolores Park plotted her comeback, the stars perforating the cloudless sky above like a daydreaming architect’s blueprint. A red light-up frisbee cruised the darkness. A man played accordion on the steps. A couple embraced beside their shopping cart. A boy with a flashlight invited us to hunt for bird eggs.
“They’re there!” he said. “The trick is you have to look deeper.”

And they were there! Lovers, angsters and in-betweeners drowning in grass and huddled on benches. (Or were they just shadows?) At the corner cafe, the band From the Hip played. The applause echoed like horse chimes upon a descending grade.
Speaking of which, things are sounding good according to the latest newsletter from Friends of Dolores Park Playground:

Friends of Dolores Park Playground is now in our final planning stage! We are on track to provide a world-class playground at Dolores Park!
Although our small group has raised $3.25 million, we still need $287,000 to install a number of objects that will bring joy and inspiration to the children and families who will soon be playing in our new playground. The chimes above are one of the objects that will require additional funding.
We are conducting a public appeal to you and all members of our community until June 30 to reach our goal that will provide these wonderful finishing touches to the playground design.
To see the objects in a photo gallery, please visit our website
Your donation of any size will help. Perhaps you or someone you know might be able to sponsor an object. We ask for your continued support from now through June as we send you these fundraising appeals and updates.
Sincerely,
Friends of Dolores Park Playground
