If your cold inside a behind the scenes look at the Armory Building will likely heat you up. Reporter Ethan Kanat of The Bold Italic gives us a history lesson on the castle-like building located on 14th and Mission, which is now home to online porn conglomerate Kink.com. While it was vacant for over 40 years the building was commonly known as a skaters haven.

Almost 2 years since the building was purchased, community resistance to the fetish entertainment company has faded and Kanat shows us what’s really going on behind the large brick wall- all 200 square feet of it. Dungeons, wrestling mats, and torture devices are all just part of the design.

Keeping up with building takeovers, El Tecolote reporter Roberto Daza was on site when approximately 20 students at San Francisco State University barricaded themselves inside the Business department building Wednesday afternoon in protest of budget cuts, fee hikes, furloughs and teacher layoffs effecting universities across the state. Moving on, we know Ms. Teriosa is a Mission Loc@l favorite but recently the Mayor weighed in on the Art in Storefronts Project for the Huffington Post saying, “residents are now seeing their neighborhoods with a fresh new perspective.” We agree Mr. Newsom.

Tonight you won’t want to miss acclaimed poet and author Jimmy Santiago Baca read from his new novel, A Glass of Water at Modern Times Bookstore. You can check out our exclusive interview with Baca by Bridget Huber here. Need a sneak peek?….

I just think the Mexican has become the archetypal scapegoat for everything. If you don’t get along with your husband, blame a Mexican. If your bank book doesn’t match up, blame a Mexican. If you have no milk in the fridge, blame a Mexican. Price of bread goes up, blame the Mexican.” – Baca

Lastly i’ll leave you with a video featuring the Mission District like you’ve never seen before- in a B-Boys stance! Pat La Rock chose the Mission District as the backdrop for one of his latest editions of Fog City Nights, a series of B- Boy dance sessions from neighborhoods around the city.

See you on the inside – Amanda
