The Mission station has become an example for the police department that Compstat, a new system of computer based crime tracking can work. The station began using Compstat after there were a series of stabbings on Muni lines around the Mission District.

In a report by ABC 7 San Francisco Supervisor Bevan Dufty described compstat as an effective weapon in catching the man responsible for at least 5 Muni stabbings. “What Compstat is doing really enabled Mission Station to coordinate with Taraval and Taraval apprehended that stabber as he was waiting aboard a train,”

Smart policing is exactly what Compstat is designed to do. It enabled police to use resources efficiently to solve crimes quickly. Learn more about it in the video below.

But this new technology doesn’t mean you should let your guard down. On Monday night a pedestrian was mugged near the corner of 23rd and South Van Ness. According to the police report the victim was confronted by two males, one of which had a gun around 10p.m. The suspects demanded property and fled in a vehicle with the victims belongings. No arrests have been made.

On that note, make sure to take a buddy if your going to the Underground Farmers Market tonight. Yes it’s a farmers market at night and it’s located at 2755 Bryant. The event which goes from 5-11p.m. will be a unique opportunity to get your Sunday shopping out of the way. I personally think jams, pies, and edible garden boxes are so much more exciting when combined with a live concert.

Last, I’ll leave you with a heads up that the San Francisco Police Department may be moving there headquarters to Third Street in Mission Bay. The designers want to green certify the building. Anrica Deb’s latest Mission Bay Roundup has the full details.
