It’s only three months into the fiscal year, but city coffers are running dry. The Chronicle reports city jails, museums, and the fire department fear they won’t be able to pay their bills by the end of the year. Officials say they’ve had to focus funds in other directions, but that still begs the question: How will the city solve this problem?

Mission Mission has it’s own solution to the financial crisis, a fundraiser. Don’t miss out. Festivities begin at 11am at Potrero del Sol Skate Park. Bikes, blogging, and prizes, it’s hard to say no.

Mission high schools, on the other hand, are doing their best to say no—no to dating violence.

The city-wide campaign, headed by Kamala Harris, encourages students to report relationship violence, and has school hallways plastered with signs reading, “If someone is trying to control you, that’s NOT a relationship … GET OUT or GET HELP.” Sobering statistics include that one out of every five teens in the nation experiences relationship violence.

Sadly, dating violence often leads to domestic violence. Check out Mission Loc@l’s report on immigrant women and their struggles with these issues.

While San Francisco schools try and alter their take on dating violence, HispanicBuisness.com reports that more and more Latinos are altering their appearance. “Ethnic cosmetic procedures increased 11 percent in 2008 over 2007, with more than 3 million performed, while procedures among Caucasians dropped 2 percent, to around 8.8 million,” according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Let’s shift gears to something more lighthearted, it IS the weekend after all.
