If Sunday is your day to go shopping you might want to stop by Bi-Rite Market. They
recently began selling $5 raffle tickets with prizes that include food items from the store, dinners, wines and a gift cards to Bi-Rite Creamery with a value of a year’s worth of ice cream. The raffle is not just a promotion it is designed to help out one of the groceries food suppliers, Soul Food, who recently experienced a detrimental fire to their farm.
In more food news The Washington Post’s food critic Tom Sietsema interviewed Mission District chef Thomas McNaughton of Flour + Water and gave the restaurant props for cooking top notch food despite its penny wise look and set of ingredients. “Flamboyance, in terms of food and service, is out; frugality, on the part of chefs and diners alike, is the watchword.”
And lastly if you’re looking for some comfort food on this gloomy Sunday I suggest the caldo de res (beef stew) from Los Jarritos Restaurant on 20th street. It is a Mission Lo@l favorite.
