Local resident and artist Chris Fallon writes today in TRUE/ SLANT about the the difficulties of sustaining San Francisco’s thriving art scene in such dismal financial times. Falllon showcases art in Partisan Gallery that he runs out of his Victorian Mission home. Stay tuned as he is planning his next exhibit now, set of course in his hallway and bathroom.
Today’s Examiner summarizes the history of the Mexican Museum and announces that the museum’s first exhibition in three years, “Treasures from the Mexican Museum: A spirited legacy,” is scheduled to open at the Palo Alto Art Center on Sept. 26. And the debate continues; is garffiti art or vandalism? Last Spring ML reporter Steve Saldivar explored this complex question from artists, and residents of the Mission District in his article, The Thin Bright Line between Art and Vandalism. It looks like the same question is being asked in Mexico City but this time the Government has plans to makeover the city. The government has recruited 1000 youth to help repaint graffti covered walls this summer for a mural makeover campaign. See video here.
Lastly, is butchery the new art?
