Police have identified the driver responsible for a five-car collision near 23rd and Capp Street on July 9th as 63 year-old Carlos Francisco Lima. Lima was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and had an open container in his car at the time of the arrest.
The suspect described by witnesses as an older gentleman is being charged with a felony for drunk driving, a felony for making a hit and run, speeding, and failure to stop at a stop sign.
Mission Loc@l reported that Lima who was driving a white Jeep did not stop after hitting a Mercedes SUV on 24th and Capp and then attempted to speed away Northbound on Capp Street. Seconds later the Jeep ran a stop sign at Capp and 23rd, hitting a red Ford Expedition and then continued to hit two parked cars – a black BMW and a silver Honda on the 800 block of Capp Street.
Eyewitnesses said Lima appeared to be drunk as police officers walked him to the ambulance. At least 3 individuals including the male driver of the red expedition were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
