If you stop reading and leave your house right now, you might still make it over to El Rio for Miss Glory Pearl, Paco Fish and the Red Hots Burlesque. If you miss it, don’t despair — you can get your fill of skin and naughty humor at the Hunky Jesus competition, Sunday at Dolores Park. Our very own Stefania Rousselle, videographer extraordinaire, will be recording that event for posterity. If you see her, say hello!
Some Mission restaurants thrive and spread around the city and across the Bay, but plenty never quite make it off the ground, and have to be shuttered. Let’s hope that the latest crop of yummy eateries (yummeries?) make it into the annals of SF food spots and survive long into the future. Mission Loc@l is putting together our own report on new and notable restaurants. Meantime, check out SF Eater’s update on what we (and our tummies) have to look forward to.
SF Curbed, cousin of sorts to SF Eater, posted a letter to David Campos about his efforts to correct the much-talked-about (and on this site, much-written-about) Planning Department typo, which would allow restaurateur Gus Murad to build his New Mission Theater condo development to 85 rather than 65 feet. Visit the site to witness the cyber-furor unleashed by said letter-writer.
In other ongoing stories … yesterday, we posted about SFGate’s latest in a string of weird wallpaper ads. The Secret Lives of Seahorses is no longer up, but today’s lead story in the paper’s Datebook section was about … seahorses. Oy.
