A new mural is in progress at 19th and Mission streets. The San Francisco Arts Commission has asked Mel Waters to paint it, but he was unable to give any more information about the mural or himself at this time. The mural represents former Mission-resident-turned-famous-musician Carlos Santana. Even though the mural is far from complete, tourists are already taking selfies with the likeness of the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer. Waters has put up two signs on either end of the piece that read, “Mural in Progress, Please Respect.” He said that there have been no problems so far.

Godzuki, and Lydia, where was the hatespeech in my post??? Hate for bad art maybe. but compared to all the hatespeech towards techies and Landlords I was mild..
Man, you need to learn what hate speech is. Slurring people for what they are is not the same as criticizing people for who they choose to be.
Welcome *back* to the Neighborhood.

this building was being hit by people associated with tagging crews, not those affiliated with a street gang. But what is the difference??
This mural in progress shows talent, It is art !! It celebrates the history of the neighborhood. The theme is a great choice. The location is right. Thank you art group for commissioning it and for work of the painter.
^ML…please delete the hatespeech comments above.
Godzuki: Thanks for the heads up. We are taking care of it. Best, Lydia
Thanks…Please note the homophobic slur in the second paragraph of mission resident’s comment.
Unfortunately, there are too many shitheads in the mission that want to vandalize every building they see with there pathetic graffiti. This particular wall was constantly tagged by d-bags. They would paint it one day, and that night there would be at least one if not a few tags. I welcome the mural as it seems to deter the loser gangbangers from vandalizing the property.
I would have preferred for the police to set up sting operations on this wall. Literally, it was like clockwork. They put a fresh coat of paint, and that night …
This mural is better than nothing. Carlos, welcome to the neighborhood!
