According to the Chronicle, law enforcement officials told a legislative committee on Tuesday that nearly 20,000 registered gun owners in California are ineligible to have guns. It could take three years and millions of dollars to confiscate the weapons. Read more here.

The New York Times reports that the Senate Judiciary Committee will meet today for the first time since the mass shooting in Newton, Conn., to formalize the search for legislation that will curb gun violence.
