Police closed off a block of 26th Street, between Valencia and Guerrero Streets, for about two hours after someone dropped off a mysterious item to the Salavation Army at 1500 Valencia Street, staff at the center said.

Management at the Salvation Army  declined to elaborate on the item, but the Chronicle is reporting that it looked like a cannonball.

A bomb squad was there and they took the item, Sean Camp, the Director of Operation at the Salvation army.

On August 15, police were also dispatched to the same center. The suspicious package that was later rendered safe. 

Camp said that it is the Salvation Army’s policy to call the police when they receive what they deem to be suspicious items at their drop off center.
