San Francisco police officers arrested 38-year-old Evan Perez Villanueva on Monday as a suspect in a fatal Mission District shooting earlier this month, according to the department.

Officers obtained a warrant to arrest Perez Villanueva and search his vehicle. They found him near the 200 block of San Bruno Ave. while he was entering a car linked to him, and arrested him.

He was transported and booked into San Francisco County Jail for the charge of homicide, and he is being held there without bail, according to jail records.

The officers also seized a shotgun found in the vehicle.

The Jan. 15 killing occurred around 9:42 p.m. near 16th Street and San Bruno Avenue. Little is known about the shooting: Officers arrived on scene and found the victim with gunshot wounds. The victim died on scene, even though paramedics and officers rendered aid.

The police department has not released the victim’s identity.

Although an arrest has been made, the investigation remains open. Anyone with information can contact the SFPD at 1-415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD.
