Good afternoon!

4th of July celebrations were “wild” in the Mission—though not as destructive as in previous years. SFGH treated six people with “fireworks-related injuries” including burns and “blast injuries” to hands and eyes; one is in critical condition. Around midnight, dozens of police officers in riot helmets charged and dispersed a crowd that had gathered to set off fireworks near Garfield Park.

• Mission Local is looking closely into DA Brooke Jenkins’ dismissal of the homicide charges against SFPD officer Kenneth Cha for the death of Sean Moore. Joe Rivano Barros explores Jenkins’ rationale for the decision, and talks with prosecutors about what happened. Eleni Balakrishnan reports that Jenkins prosecuted Sean Moore before dropping the charges against the cop who shot him. And we have the story on the assistant DA who prosecuted Moore for punching Cha’s partner in the shooting incident, and dated Cha’s partner during the caseStay tuned: Mission Local has filed a public records request for redacted emails cited by the DA in her motion to dismiss.
