Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

Money is everywhere in this election—even in low-turnout races that usually don’t see a lot of spending. Kelly Waldron looks at the contest for S.F. Superior Court judge, where prosecutor Phoebe Maffei has raised five times more than her opponent, public defender Alexandra Pray. Maffei’s $150K comes mostly from a tech executive and law enforcement unions.

But why are unions, Supervisor Connie Chan‘s most loyal allies, slow to kick in money to her campaign for Congress? Yujie Zhou writes about the challenges local unions grapple with when a hometown ally enters a federal race.

There’s been a lot of controversy around Supervisor Matt Dorsey‘s as-yet theoretical plan to create drug-free supportive housing in San Francisco. Iryna Humenyek explains why Dorsey’s bill was sent back for edits.

And check out the Mission Buzz and Excelsior Buzz for neighborhood news.

More soon,
