Right before peak tourist season, Alcatraz ferry workers have voted to authorize a strike against Alcatraz Cruises, which has the sole contract for ferries to the island. Workers are still struggling to get their first contract, and say the company has been negotiating in bad faith for two years.

After a series of racist threats and a devastating fire at their Alamo Square home, Black dogwalker Terry Williams and his family are picking up the pieces. Eleni Balakrishnan talks with Williams about losing “100, 200 years” of family history with the house, and how he plans to go forward.

In this week’s See how they run, H.R. Smith follows mayoral candidate Aaron Peskin. Yesterday Peskin made a pitch for expanding the city’s senior operating subsidies, which help pay rent for seniors who are too poor to afford “affordable” housing.
