Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

In a stunning blow to D4 Supe Joel Engardio, the city’s Democratic Party took no position on his recall. Several of Engardio’s former moderate allies either abstained or were absent from last night’s vote, ensuring him no official Democratic support in the September 16 recall election.

Fascinating reading: Sheryl Davis, former head of the city’s Human Rights Commission, now faces criminal charges from the DA’s office. Davis sat down with Marina Newman to offer her point of view on the scandals surrounding her tenure, the charges of corruption, and her resignation.

Mayor Daniel Lurie has said that hiring caseworkers and clinicians to staff treatment beds is a priorityโ€”but Abigail Vรขn Neely discovers that City College, the pipeline for training certified drug counselors, has no more room for students.

See the back story on Lurie’s January call for expanding addiction treatmentโ€”and the skepticism from healthcare workers who predicted a shortage of trained clinicians.

More soon,

Sara
