Good afternoon!
What does it mean to be human in the age of artificial intelligence? Brandon Pho has a really interesting article about a closed-door meeting of San Francisco religious leaders who are grappling urgently with the challenges of AI.
Mayor Daniel Lurie announced last month that the city would impose โtighter limitsโ on its nearly 500 Flock surveillance cameras. Frankie Solinsky Duryea reports that Lurie’s policies still let the SFPD hold on to data for far longer than other Bay Area citiesโand 50 times longer than Flock itself recommends.
For back story, see our report on how federal and out-of-state agencies illegally accessed data from San Francisco’s surveillance cameras.
You’re probably sick of getting calls about the upcoming election. But Nicholas David and Yujie Zhou got to watch a real pro at work, as Nancy Pelosi sat down to dial up some local voters and urge them to vote for Connie Chan.
More soon,
Sara
Here’s a plan: If you haven’t voted yet, take a look at our San Francisco voter guide and election coverage. When you’re done, instead of mailing your ballot, drop it in one of the city’s 37 official drop boxes. And if you haven’t even registered yet, go to City Hall, or do it on Election Day at any polling place.
