Good afternoon! There’s a lot going on right now.
A judge accepted yet one more delay in the case against the San Francisco police officer who shot and killed Sean Moore โ after promising last month she wouldn’t. ย The officer’s lawyer said he needed time to file two defense motions, one blaming โirregularities in the prosecution of the caseโ under former DA Chesa Boudin. The district attorney’s office did not oppose the delay.
More news in the painful story of Banko Brown’s murder: grief and tension at his funeral yesterday, and a civil suit filed today against Walgreens, Kingdom Group Protective Services and security guard Michael Earl-Wayne Anthony. The suit, on behalf of Brown’s parents, calls for “no less than” $25 million in damages. Next Wednesday, Joe Eskanazi hosts a discussion about the life and death of Banko Brown at Manny’s: you can get tickets here.
An ongoing conflict escalated over at Parcel 36, the disputed land on Treat Street, when a member of the guerrilla gardener group Mission Greenway punched a Monkeybrains co-founder after he knocked a phone from her hand. We’ve got video, but no answers about when the argument will be resolved.
It’s Carnaval in the Mission this weekend: music and festival on Saturday (including Cuban stars Los Van Van) and parade on Sunday. Lots of other stuff to do, too, but I don’t plan to miss the Diablos de Santiago de Juxtlahuaca at the parade.
More soon,
Sara
