Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

After a long, heated campaign, algebra is back in San Francisco middle schools for the first time since 2014. Marina Newman looks at what the fight was all about.

State Senator Scott Weiner, running to replace Nancy Pelosi in Congress, continues to be a high-profile legislator in Sacramento. His latest, reports Yujie Zhou, is a bill that would lock in MediCal funding for acupunctureโ€”and fulfill a promise he made to voters in Chinatown.

Sarah Hopkins and Oscar Palma dig into the ways arts and cultural centers are run in San Francisco, and what’s at stake now for arts organizations given changes in the arts commission, and recent cuts in city funds.

For back story, read about the closure of the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts.

Hey, did you see that Mission Local is hiring a tech and politics reporter? We’re looking for someone who will report on the ideologies undergirding tech politics, and how tech wields power in the city and nationally. Take a look at the job description, and see if you, or someone you know, fits the bill.

More soon,

Sara
