Well, summer’s over—and now it’s summer here in San Francisco. Hope you’re staying cool.

What happened? San Francisco’s jail population dropped sharply and is now at its lowest level since pandemic years—despite an increase in arrests and prosecutions. Frankie Solinsky Duryea explains why.

For back story, see our report just a few months ago about what were unsustainable levels of overcrowding and understaffing at the jails.

Junyao Yang looks at who’s spending money for and against Prop G, which would re-open the Great Highway to cars. Those in favor of keeping the Sunset Dunes park are outraising opponents 7-1.
