Good afternoon! Here’s the latest, as anger over ICE grows in California:

Masked ICE agents arrested at least two people at S.F.’s immigration court today, and loaded them into vans as a crowd tried to stop them. The court was shut down, and afternoon hearings were cancelled. See our videos and read the details.

Last night, thousands of people marched peacefully through the Mission protesting ICE deportations. Later, a small group splintered off toward Market Street, breaking windows and spray-painting slogans; police tackled them, using pepper spray and arresting about 80. Two people were taken away by ambulance.

One of the vandalized businesses, Manny’s Cafรฉ, was tagged with graffiti attacking the Jewish owner, Manny Yekutiel: “Fuck Manny” and “Zionist Fucks Gentrifyers.” Yekutiel said he received support from community members.

Meanwhile, the annual Immigrant Leadership Awards at City Hall were recognizing several immigrants for their civic contributions. One honoree asked attendees to head over to the Mission protest.

Look for a report from Lydia Chรกvez later this evening about the 16th St. Plaza, now that the SFPD Mobile Command Unit is gone. You’ll find it with all our coverage of the crackdown.

More soon,

Sara
