Good afternoon, and hello to the sun!

The planning commission agreed to an ordinance backed by Supervisor Joel Engardio and Mayor Breed that would slash housing fees and permits, and allow the demolition of single-family homes to speed up housing production. The measure is hotly debated, and now moves to the Board of Supervisors.

Jesus Esparza pleaded not guilty today to fatally stabbing his 64-year-old neighbor, Mei Ran Hu, on May 5. Esparza, who missed four previous court dates, is severely mentally ill and doesn’t know why he’s behind bars, according to his lawyer.

The Fillmore Jazz Festival is back this weekend, as is the “Dance Free” hip-hop dance festival, and we’ve got lots more stuff to do in the Mission and around town.

More soon,

Sara
