It’s end-of-year giving season—and we have matching funds.

Good afternoon!

An influx of immigrant families from Latin America means children arrive in SF without a place to sleep. Buena Vista Horace Mann, in the Mission, offers some newcomer students and families cots in the gym, but there’s not enough room for all the families seeking shelter.

If you’re looking for volunteer opportunities this season, we have a guide to ways you can help out with meals, groceries, and more.

Some will have crabs for Thanksgiving, and some will have ice cream. Smitten, the Valencia St. ice cream shop vandalized with pro-Palestinian graffiti, re-opened yesterday, with help from neighbors, and a new ice cream flavor called “I choose love.”

More soon,

Sara

Just this year, Mission Local won awards from the Institute for Nonprofit News and the Society of Professional Journalists. We’ve been consistently ahead of the curve, breaking important city-wide and local stories and placing them in context. We deliver in-depth, timely news to the Mission and San Francisco — but this work isn’t free.
Mission Local is supported by hundreds of readers who give from $5 to $500 a month. We are asking for your help: If you haven’t already, please consider supporting our work now.
Many thanks to those who’ve already stepped up their contributions. Just as you, our readers, depend on us, we depend on you.
