Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

Hey, now there’s a new plan for the controversial Valencia St. bike lane. At a community meeting yesterday, planners said they want to move the lane back curbside and install “floating” parklets, after the center lane drew complaints from bicyclists and businesses. See what the design looks like.

Mission Local obtained documents showing that Eugene Burger Management, which oversees the city’s public housing on Potrero Hill, consistently failed to meet the Housing Authority’s standards. Eleni Balakrishnan’s got the story, as well as a timeline of some recent events at the troubled siteโ€”a deadly fire, deteriorating buildings, squatters, alleged fraud, and mass evictions.

Video of the recent police shooting at the Powell Street BART station shows an armed suspect being chased through the streets by SFPD officers, while bystanders take cover. The cops tried unsuccessfully to stop the man with BolaWrap devices before firing.

Last night’s Forest Hills forum for D7 supervisorial candidates got hot, with challengers repeatedly attacking incumbent Myrna Melgar on public safety. Audience members chimed in, with one shouting at moderator Joe Eskenazi, โ€œStop trying to fact-check!โ€

What do we look like? See the large-scale pop/abstract/Americana oil paintings of Berisford, a Londoner in California. Opening reception this Saturday at the Luna Rienne Gallery on 22nd near Valencia. Full local events calendar here.
