Singer Lila Downs in a white dress holds a guitar; text promotes her Dรญa de los Muertos show on October 25 at Zellerbach Hall for the 2025-26 Cal Performances season.

Good afternoon!

Here’s some good news: The Mission branch library is set to open in the spring. Oscar Palma has the details on the lengthy renovation, and a peek inside.

Broke-Ass Stuart, chronicler of San Francisco’s late-night dive bars, has a new book coming out. To honor his decades of reporting, the Board of Supes is declaring October 17 “Broke-Ass Stuart Day.”

And in case you missed it, Teresa Moore has a terrific profile of the great multi-disciplinary artist Suzanne Jackson, as a six-decade retrospective of her work opens at SFMOMA.

More soon,
