Dear Readers:

Thanks to your generosity we now have $50,000 more in the bank, which is exceedingly helpful in sustaining our expanded election coverage. Thank you! As you well know, we cannot do this without you.

Thanks also to our new board chair Frances Dinkelspiel who pushed us to try a first-ever spring campaign. Frances never stops and she did exceptional work in getting the word out. And our new hire working in development engagement, Vicky Añíbarro, has been a dream to have on board, making everything run smoothly.

As you can see in the illustration below, Mission Local runs a lean operation. So be assured that most of your donation will go directly to reporting.

I hope you are enjoying our supervisor series Meet the Candidates, the mayoral series, See How They Run and all of the Campaign finance and BigMoney SF stories. And, of course, there is Joe Eskenazi’s continual analysis of election shenanigans.

Our Election Page with all of the above is here.

Hold onto your hat, there will be much more in the coming months as Mission Local continues to mine the electorate and races for more stories.  And, of course, it is never too late to support our work.

All the best,

Lydia

I’ve been a Mission resident since 1998 and a professor emeritus at Berkeley’s J-school since 2019. I got my start in newspapers at the Albuquerque Tribune in the city where I was born and raised. Like many local news outlets, The Tribune no longer exists. I left daily newspapers after working at The New York Times for the business, foreign and city desks. Lucky for all of us, it is still here.

As an old friend once pointed out, local has long been in my bones. My Master’s Project at Columbia, later published in New York Magazine, was on New York City’s experiment in community boards.

As founder/executive editor at ML, I've been trying to figure out how to make my interest in local news sustainable. If Mission Local is a model, the answer might be that you - the readers - reward steady and smart content. As a thank you for that support we work every day to make our content even better.
