Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

The last weekend before the election is coming up, and Y Combinator’s Garry Tan just dropped $76,000 to oppose Prop D, the ‘Overpaid CEO Tax.’ Read all the news from Kelly Waldron and Io Yeh Gilman in our election blog, and stay tuned for more.

Former nonprofit head James Spignola, facing multiple felony charges for abetting the misappropriation of public funds, appeared in court today, where he was denied a court-appointed lawyer. Spignola said he has cancer and cannot pay for counsel, but the judge noted the nearly $530,000 in Spignola’s bank account. Marina Newman has the whole story.

Sarah Hopkins reports that Outer Sunset landlord Philippe Chagniotย  has pleaded not guilty to murder, arson and weapons charges in connection with what prosecutors said was a planned ambush that killed his tenant Eric Bigone.

So what did you, and other Mission Local readers, really want to tell us about your priorities for whoever will succeed Nancy Pelosi in Congress? 900 respondents answered our survey, and Yujie Zhou has the results.

And enjoy this tasty treat from illustrator Neil Ballard, below.

More soon,

Sara
